Inception meeting for establishment of working group to develop RRG for wildlife investigators and prosecutors

The USAID Wildlife Asia, in coordination with United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is organizing the working group meeting for ‘Rapid Reference Guide (RRG)’ which is chaired by Thailand’s Office of Attorney General on Tuesday 19 December 2017. The RRG is intended as a practical tool for wildlife investigators and prosecutors, the RRG will contain brief descriptions of all specialized laws/regulations as well as ancillary statutes. It will be designed to inform investigators/ case managers about what is minimally required to build an evidential case against those accused of wildlife and related crimes.

Social & Behavior Change Communication Workshop for Thai NGOs

USAID Wildlife Asia schemes to facilitate and conduct the first Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) workshop for environmental NGOs and government agencies staff in Thailand. This three-day workshop covers the range of SBCC behavior analysis and planning matrix to develop SBCC plan and creative materials to reduce demand for ivory, rhino horn, pangolin and tiger products among specific target audience. It is also designed to enhance the ability of NGOs and government agencies staff to effectively manage and develop their communication campaigns.

Training on Risk Profiling to Enhance Interception of Illegal Wildlife Trade

USAID Wildlife Asia will will collaborate with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on a series of capacity building events focusing on strengthening customs authorities’ ability to detect, investigate and develop wildlife trafficking cases for successful prosecution. The UNODC will develop the curriculum and provide trainers/facilitators for these courses based upon identified needs and tapping into existing expertise already in place. USAID Wildlife Asia will coordinate and facilitate the training workshops as well as provide relevant expertise and trainers.

The 4th Regional Dialogue on Combating Trafficking of Wild Fauna and Flora

ROUTES Roundtable to Develop Role Specific Competency Criteria for Staff in the Aviation Industry to Help Combat Wildlife Trafficking

The illegal wildlife trade is worth billions of dollars annually and is driving many species toward extinction. The organized criminal syndicates behind these crimes frequently use airlines and airports to smuggle wildlife which poses risks to airlines, airports and passengers. The USAID Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species Trafficking (ROUTES) Partnership has been working with the aviation industry for the last two years to raise awareness among industry staff and build capacity for the entire sector to help stop wildlife trafficking. The ROUTES Partnership is organizing a roundtable to develop role specific competency criteria that can be part of the training provided to staff working in airports and at airlines to help stop wildlife trafficking. The participants of the roundtable will include representatives from airlines and airports in Africa, Asia and Europe, Airline and airport industry bodies, Customs, Cargo, Non-Governmental Organizations focusing on wildlife conservation, Security firms and the U.S. Government.
